Biography:
Isidro González Velázquez was a Spanish late-Baroque architect born in Madrid in 1765 and died in 1829. He was the brother of Zacarías González Velázquez, also a painter. Isidro González Velázquez was the son of Antonio González Velázquez, a painter, and the grandson of Pablo González Velázquez, a sculptor. He was trained at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, where he later became Director. He was known for his architectural works, including the decoration of several rooms in the Royal Palace of El Pardo and the Oratory of the Caballero de Gracia in Madrid. He was appointed Deputy Director of Painting at the Academy in 1804 and rose to the position of Director in 1828, a position he held until 1831. He died in Madrid in 1829.
