Biography:
José de Guimarães is a Portuguese artist born in Guimarães in 1939. He is considered one of the main Portuguese artists of contemporary art, with a vast and remarkable work in painting, sculpture, and other creative activities. His works are exhibited in various museums in Europe, the United States, Brazil, Canada, Israel, and Japan. In Portugal, he has had a strong involvement with the Capital European of Culture in Guimarães, which saw the birth of the International Center of Arts José de Guimarães (CIAJG), integrated into the Platform of Arts and Creativity. He has received several awards, including the title of Commander in the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator by the President of Portugal.
