Biography:

Denys Louis Lasdun, CH, CBE, RA was an eminent English architect, the son of Nathan Lasdun (1879–1920) and Julie (née Abrahams; 1884–1963). He was born in Kensington, London, United Kingdom in 1914 and died in Fulham, London, United Kingdom in 2001. He was one of the most notable architects of his time, with his best known work being the Royal National Theatre on London's South Bank of the Thames. He was also known for his work on the University of East Anglia student residences, which were photographed in the 1960s by Bill Toomey. He was a fellow of the Royal Academy and was awarded the title of Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) and Companion of Honour (CH) by the British government. He was also a keen flyer and often accompanied critic Ian Nairn in his plane excursions over the British Isles.
