James Fraser Scott (also known as James F. Scott or J. F. Scott) was a New Zealand-born artist who served as an official war artist during the First World War. He was born on September 24, 1877 in Dunedin and studied at the Dunedin School of Art. Scott exhibited with the Otago Art Society before moving to Australia where he continued his artistic career. During the First World War, James F. Scott served as a lieutenant in the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) and was appointed as an official war artist by the Australian government. He created numerous artworks depicting various aspects of the war, including battle scenes, portraits of soldiers, and landscapes affected by the conflict. After the war, Scott returned to Australia and continued his artistic career. He became a member of the Royal Scottish Academy (ARSA) in 1928. James F. Scott passed away on December 30, 1932.
