Founded in 2015, WikiOO is an independent, open-access encyclopaedia dedicated to the systematic documentation of the world's visual art heritage. Our editorial mission is to make authoritative art-historical knowledge universally accessible — free of charge, across all languages and all levels of expertise.

We hold the conviction that the study of painting, sculpture and the broader visual arts should not be confined to academic institutions or private collections. WikiOO bridges the distance between the specialist and the curious general reader, offering structured, peer-informed entries on artists, movements, techniques and periods spanning five millennia of human creativity.
