En Jeune Servante (Waiting Maid) Soutine se centra en un solo tema contra un fondo no adorado, una figura anónima de clase obrera con uniforme pintado con cepillos típicamente expresivos y táctiles. La pintura también tiene un segundo título, La Soubrette (que se refiere a un carácter coquettish derivado de operetta), que - posiblemente para fomentar las ventas - se dio cuando el trabajo se ofreció a la venta en Londres en 1938 en un espectáculo titulado Los Pintores Trágicos en Alex, Reid & Lefevre Ltd., cuando también fue fechado a c.1925, aunque el título original parece más cercano al artista
