Poniatowski (1732-1798), el ex rey polaco, había sido exiliado a San Petersburgo. El artista perteneció a su círculo interior y rara vez perdió sus cenas íntimas. Aquí, ella demuestra su dominio de las técnicas ilusionistas necesarias para representar telas: terciopelo, piel, moiré y césped. Aparecer en todo su esplendor, el sitter lleva un manto de terciopelo rojo recortado con ermina y la cinta azul de la Orden Polaca del Águila Blanca.
