Aquí, Ernst Barlach captura un momento en la guerra de clases entre campesinos empobrecidos, pastores y mendigos y la regla del zar ruso. Este espíritu de revuelta culminó en la Revolución Rusa de 1917 cuando se derrocó el gobierno zarista y se estableció un nuevo gobierno del pueblo, la Unión Soviética.
