Gasparo Luigi Pacifico Spontini (1779-1851), compositor italiano, se estableció en París donde hizo su reputación con obras realizadas en el Théâtre-Italien y el Opéra-Comique. La emperatriz Josephine le nombró su director de música personal, y en 1812, Friedrich Wilhelm III llamado Spontini director de música en Berlín, donde se quedó hasta el rey.
