Born in Montreal, Canada, John Fox was a multifaceted artist whose creative practice spanned painting, sculpture, collage, watercolor, and drawing. In his early years, his work focused on representation, a period that saw him study at the School of Art and Design at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts under Goodridge Roberts. This representational phase gave way to a period of Lyrical abstraction between 1972 and 1986, during which he worked on large canvases using diverse techniques such as sponges, knives, and even a spray gun to create rich, textured surfaces.
