Shūtoku was a Japanese painter and printmaker of the late Edo period. He was born in Kyoto in 1745 and died in 1821. Shūtoku was a member of the Katsukawa school, which was one of the most important schools of ukiyo-e painting and printmaking in Japan during the 18th and 19th centuries. He was known for his depictions of actors and sumo wrestlers, as well as his landscapes and genre scenes. Shūtoku's work is characterized by its bold lines, vibrant colors, and dynamic compositions. He was a prolific artist, producing many prints and paintings throughout his career.
