The Life and Artistic Path of Wilhelm Volz

Born in Karlsruhe, Germany, Wilhelm Volz was a painter, lithographer, history painter, genre painter, etcher, graphic artist, and illustrator. His artistic education began at the Großherzogliche Badische Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Karlsruhe, where he studied under Karl Gussow and Ferdinand Keller. His training later extended to the Académie Julian in Paris, studying under Jules-Joseph Lefebvre and Gustave Boulanger. His career saw him move to Munich around 1888, where he joined the Münchner Künstlergesellschaft Allotria and later became a member of the Münchner Secession. He was also a corresponding member of the Secessions in Vienna and Berlin. His work is characterized by a style situated between Historismus, Symbolismus, and Jugendstil.
