Svend Einar Bjørn Rønne lived a life defined by the careful observation of his surroundings. Born in 1868, this Danish figure moved through the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries with a dual focus on the creation and the preservation of art. He was a painter and a conservator, a combination of roles that suggests a deep, technical intimacy with the physical nature of the medium itself.

In 1891, he produced Parti fra Nyhavn, an oil on paper mounted on canvas that looks toward the canal scenery of Nyhavn. Such works, including his Cafe Landscape, reflect a steady eye for the quiet details of his era.
