Early Life and Education

Joaquín Rodrigo Vidre

, a renowned Spanish composer and virtuoso pianist, was born on November 22, 1901, in Sagunto, Province of Valencia. At the age of three, he lost his sight completely due to diphtheria. Despite this, he began studying solfège, piano, and violin at eight years old. He later studied harmony and composition under Francisco Antich in Valencia and Paul Dukas at the École Normale de Musique in Paris.

Notable Works

Rodrigo's most famous work, Concierto de Aranjuez, was composed in 1939 for the guitarist Regino Sainz de la Maza. This concerto for guitar and orchestra has become a cornerstone of the classical guitar repertoire.
