Biografija:

Konstantin Velichkov Petkov was a prominent Bulgarian writer and public figure, born in 1855 in the town of Pazardzhik, Ottoman Empire (now Bulgaria). He received his education at the Galatasaray High School in Istanbul, where he studied from 1868 to 1874. After returning to his hometown, he became a teacher and chairman of the local Chitalishte (reading club).

Revolutionary Activities and Exile

Velichkov was an active member of the local revolutionary committee, aiming to liberate Bulgaria from Ottoman domination. He participated in the preparations for the April uprising alongside Todor Kableshkov. After the failure of the insurgents, Velichkov was arrested and sentenced to death by the Ottoman authorities. However, he was released thanks to a committee sent by European powers to investigate Turkish atrocities during the suppression of the rebellion.

Artistic Pursuits and Later Life

Velichkov's interest in art led him to study law in France (until 1881) and later, painting in Florence, Italy. He taught at the Bulgarian Men's High School of Thessaloniki and lived for a few years in Istanbul. Velichkov continued his political career with the People's party and was minister on several occasions, as well as ambassador in Serbia (1902-1904). He was an active member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

Velichkov died on his way to Grenoble in November 1907. Two years later, his remains were returned to Sofia. A Sofia metro station was named in his honor in 1998. Today, Velichkov's legacy can be explored through various artistic and historical resources, including his profile on Wikioo.org.
