The last defenders of Missolonghi (Mesolongi), April 22, 1826: episode from the Greek War of Liberty. The remaining inhabitants of the city are about to blow themselves up with barrels of gunpowder. Some men hugging each other, a high priest pointing a gun at a barrel of gunpowder, a dog on the right. Right at the top of the stairs the approaching Turkish soldiers.
