Fred Ajanogha, also known as Ajano, is a Nigerian sculptor whose captivating bronze reliefs and public art installations have cemented his place as a prominent figure in contemporary African art. Born in 1958 to Sunday and Rebecca Ajanogha in Benin City, Nigeria—a region steeped in ancient traditions of bronze casting—Ajano’s artistic journey began early, fueled by an innate talent recognized within his family and nurtured through formal education at Creative Art Academy in Benin City under the guidance of Mr. Doran Door. This formative experience instilled a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and inspired him to explore diverse artistic styles. Creative Art Academy proved instrumental in shaping Ajano’s artistic sensibilities, fostering a profound understanding of traditional Nigerian sculpting techniques—particularly bronze casting—a practice deeply rooted in Benin’s rich cultural heritage. Under the mentorship of Mr. Doran Door, he honed his skills and absorbed invaluable knowledge about material manipulation and sculptural form.
