Questo ritratto della suffragetta britannica Charlotte Blacklock è stato dipinto da suo cugino, artista britannico Amy Sawyer. Fu dipinto tra gli anni 1900-1912, quando Charlotte era di mezza età. Charlotte Blacklock era una suffragette attiva che si unì all'Unione Sociale e Politica delle Donne (WSPU), un gruppo di suffragio militante attivo all'inizio del XX secolo. Nel 1912 Charlotte prese parte a un'incursione di finestra durante la quale decine di suffragette lanciarono missili attraverso le finestre dei negozi nel cuore di Londra. Fu successivamente arrestata, condannata a quattro mesi di carcere, e andò in sciopero della fame come segno di protesta. Nel suo rilascio la WSPU le ha assegnato una medaglia di sciopero della fame come testimonianza del suo coraggio e tribolazioni in prigione.
