Situato vicino alla fine del Canal Grande di Venezia, Santa Maria della Salute è diventato uno dei luoghi più riconoscibili della città grazie alla sua caratteristica cupola, e quello più spesso rappresentato in dipinti realizzati per la vendita ai visitatori. Questo lavoro, che fu tra i primi acquistati da The Met, nel 1871, fu prodotto con un pendente, o con una vista compagna, che rappresentava il Canal Grande sopra il Ponte di Rialto.
