Nel 1910 Cadell andò a Venezia. La forte luce, riflette i canali increspanti e i colori vivaci del porto adriatico hanno messo in luce le tendenze impressioniste esistenti di Cadell a un nuovo passo. Era a Venezia che Cadell divenne un colorista. Questa è una vista dalla Pensione de la Calcina attraverso la Zattere verso l'isola di La Guidecca. L'uso della finestra francese per inquadrare una vista ben nota aggiunge struttura alla pittura e al contrasto tra l'interno ombreggiato e il canale luminoso e colorato oltre. Questo, nel corso del XIX secolo, era stato un dispositivo pittorico preferito per gli artisti, ma era stato particolarmente popolare con i pittori francesi di fauve come Matisse all'inizio del XX secolo.
