Questo è uno dei primi dipinti ad olio di Turner del 1800, raffigurante il Castello Dolbadarn del XIII secolo a Llanberis, nel Galles del nord. Si pensa che Owain Goch ap Gruffydd, sovrano di parte del Regno di Gwynedd (nel Galles del nord moderno) sia stato imprigionato in questo castello da suo fratello Llywelyn, un altro sovrano che cerca di estendere il suo regno nel 1255. Owain trascorse 20 anni prima che Llywelyn lo rilasciasse riluttantemente sotto i termini di un nuovo trattato.
