Completato nel 1818, Macquarie Lighthouse a Vaucluse è stato progettato da Francis Greenway, un condannato per la falsificazione, e nominato per Lachlan Macquarie, il governatore della NSW che lo ha commissionato. Macquarie era così contento del suo faro che diede un perdono parziale all’architetto inglese. Le fondamenta di arenaria inciampanti portarono alla costruzione di un faro sostitutivo nel 1883. Progettato da James Barnet per assomigliare strettamente all'originale, questo faro continua ad operare, garantendo il passaggio sicuro di navi nel porto di Sydney.
