Renoir's visita in italia nel 1881 stimolato l'interesse per i soggetti ispirati all'antichità classica piuttosto che presi dalla vita contemporanea . Ciò ha comportato una serie di nudi ambientati in scenari paesaggistici generalizzati che ha dipinto alla fine 1880s e 1890s .
