Born in Torgau, Germany, Otto Wagner grew up in a world where the boundaries between nature and architecture were often blurred. These works, such as his 1839 depiction of the Tiber Island and Ponte Rotto in Rome, show a keen eye for the way light interacts with ancient architecture. He also worked as a decorative painter for the court stage in Dresden, showing a versatility that extended from the grand landscape to the intimate details of stage design.
He spent his final years in Niederlößnitz, near Dresden, passing away in 1861. His life's work remains a record of the landscapes and architectural wonders of his era, captured through the precise hand of a man who saw the world in both its natural and constructed forms.
