カール・アンドレは1935年9月16日、マサレルギー州クインシーに生を受けた。彼の父は、船舶用の淡水配管における熟練した設計士であった。
彼はクインシーの公立学校で学び、その後、マサチューセッツ州アンドバーのフィリップス・アカデミーへと進んだ(1951-1953年)。
