Léonide Bourgesの略歴
The Life and Art of Léonide Bourges
Born in Paris, France, Léonide Bourges was a painter who emerged in the mid-nineteenth century. The daughter of an art dealer, she received formal training under several notable masters, including Théodore Frédéric Salmon, Pierre Édouard Frère, and Charles-François Daubigny. Her professional journey began at the Salon in 1857, where she presented her still life works. Throughout her career, her repertoire expanded to include genre scenes, landscapes, and still lifes, often practicing plein air painting.
Bourges was a central figure in the artistic community of Auvers-sur-Oise, where she resided from 1874 until her death. She was part of a social circle that gathered at the Café de la Station, which included figures such as Camille Corot and Honoré Daumier. Her connection to Daubigny was particularly significant; she was a friend of the artist and later organized a subscription to erect a monument in his honor following his passing.
Notable Works and Exhibitions
The artist's body of work is represented in various public collections, including the Bowes Museum, the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Reims, and the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Morlaix. Her documented works include:
In addition to her paintings, Bourges produced various drawings, such as studies of the Romanesque Chapel of Auvers and the church bell tower of Auvers. Her work has been exhibited in several locations, including London and various salons, and she was honored with a medal at an exhibition in Saint-Germain.
