Ron Mueck
The Hands of a Maker Ron Mueck grew up surrounded by the textures of his family's business in Melbourne, Australia, where puppetry and doll-making were daily realities. This early familiarity with creating small, lifelike forms stayed with him long after he moved to the United Kingdom in 1986. Before turning to fine art, he spent years working as a model-maker for film and television. He was part of the creative world behind Jim Henson
’s work, contributing his skills to projects like the character Ludo in the film Labyrinth and the series The Storyteller. These years were spent focusing on the minute details required to make something inanimate appear breathing and real. In the mid-1990s, his focus shifted from the screen to the gallery.
