Professional Background of Robert H. Whaley
Robert H. Whaley is not a visual artist, but rather a legal professional and judicial figure. Born in Huntington, West Virginia, he pursued an academic path that led to an Artium Baccalaureus degree from Princeton University in 1965, followed by a Juris Doctor from Emory University School of Law in 1968.
His career is defined by extensive service within the American legal system. Following a period of private practice and service in the United States Marine Corps, he served as a trial attorney for the Land and Natural Resources Division of the United States Department of Justice. He later worked as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington until 1972.
Judicial Career and Service
Whaley's judicial career includes significant roles within the state and federal systems. He served as a judge on the Superior Court of Spokane County, Washington, from 1992 to 1995. His legal expertise was further demonstrated when he argued a case before the Supreme Court of the United States, Texaco Inc. v. Hasbrouck, which was decided in 1990.
In 1995, President Bill Clinton nominated Whaley to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Washington. After being confirmed by the United States Senate, he served as chief judge of the District starting in 2005, eventually assuming senior status on July 12, 2009.
