Gusssowは、「Naturalism」として知られる成長する学校で19世紀のドイツ代表的な支持者と見なされました。 1875年から1880年にGussowが教えたベルリン・アカデミーのディレクターであるAnton von Werner氏が「自然を再現する」という理想を語りました。 1879年～1881年の間、ウォーカーで開催されたリバプール・秋の展覧会でグソーが展示した3つの絵画の1つです。 この時期にロンドンに拠点を構え、先代は塗装したパネルを買った。
