Mare with Foals

The Essence of Equine Grace

Franz Marc’s Mare with Foals, painted in 1912, presents a serene and powerful depiction of equine life. The composition features three horses interacting within their surroundings. One horse is captured standing on its hind legs, while another is bent over to graze. A third horse is positioned behind the others, appearing to look down upon them. This scene of animal interaction is accompanied by the presence of birds; one bird flies above the horses, and another is perched upon the back of one of the animals.)
