Filippo Rizzo (1897 – 1964)
A leader of Sicilian Futurism, Filippo Rizzo created the iconic The Nomad. Discover his unique geometric masterpieces today.
Pippo Rizzo, a leading figure of the Futurist movement in Sicily, portrayed his friend Giulio Cesareo on this canvas. He became emblematic of the contemporary man: the bold and deliberately static pose of a man wearing smart clothes stands out in the foreground against the powerful symbol of modern civilization of machines, symbolised by the shining train in the background. The geometric simplification and breakdown of the flat surfaces into wedges and triangles are the main characteristics of this work, giving it an evident Futuristic tone.
