Born in Copenhagen on 22 March 1872, Marie Sandholt was raised within a well-to-do family. She was the daughter of the physician Peter Boll Wivet Sandholt and Louise Victoria Aagaard. Her formal training began at the Tegne- og Kunstindustriskolen for Kvinder, the Arts and Crafts School for Women. While working as a maid in the home of the painter Viggo Pedersen, Marie Sandholt found herself immersed in an environment of active creation. Sandholt’s professional life was marked by a versatile engagement with various mediums and instructional roles.
