George Shepherd, often identified by the name George "Sidney" Shepherd, was a distinguished British draughtsman and watercolourist whose work serves as a vital visual record of a transforming era. His artistic journey began in France, where he resided until 1793, before returning to Britain amidst the upheaval of the Great French War. This early exposure to the European landscape likely contributed to the refined sensibility found in his later topographical and architectural studies.
