A Life of Art and Music
Born in Stavanger, Norway, August Jacobsen was a painter whose work spanned landscapes and portraits. His artistic journey was marked by a diverse range of styles, including nyromantikk, naturalism, and impressionism. Before dedicating himself to painting, Jacobsen was a musician, playing the flute in the Stavanger city orchestra and later the cello. During his time in Paris, he encountered Norwegian artists Thorvald Erichsen and Oluf Wold-Torne, who served as inspirations for his work. His artistic development also included time spent at Zahrtmanns skole in Copenhagen.
