Dirck de Quade van Ravesteyn: A Painter at the Court of Rudolf II Dirck de Quade van Ravesteyn (c. 1565 – c. 1620) was a Netherlandish painter who spent most of his career at the court of Rudolf II, Holy Roman Emperor, in Prague. He was an important member of the internationally known Prague school, the circle of Netherlandish and German artists whose refined, elegant Mannerism made Rudolf’s court one of the most brilliant artistic cen
tres of its day. He was probably born in The Hague, and his father Claes belonged to a family of artists. Training and Arrival in Prague De Quade is said to have trained with a pupil of the Flemish painter Frans Floris. In 1589 he entered the service of Rudolf II, and he worked for the emperor for some two decades. By 1598 he owned a house in Prague’s Malá Strana district, below the castle.
