Astra Unceta y Cía was a Spanish company dedicated to the manufacture of weapons, founded in 1908 in Éibar, Guipúzcoa, in the Basque Country. In 1913, the company moved to the town of Guernica and Luno, becoming the first industry in that region and serving as a motor for its industrialization. After the Spanish Civil War, the company was nationalized and became known as Astra, Unceta y Cía S.A. In 1997, the company closed and sold its patents to the Italian entrepreneur Massimo Garbarino, who opened new facilities in the Swiss town of Sion in 2008. The company is known for the production of high-quality weapons, including the Astra Model 1921 pistol, which was adopted as the standard pistol of the Spanish armed forces and police in 1921-23.
