Early Life, Family and Training Gottlieb Biermann emerged from a working-class background in Berlin, born in 1824 as the son of a master tailor. This lineage provided a stark contrast to the academic circles he would eventually inhabit. His formal training began in 1840 at the Royal Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin.
