His father, Sven August Peterson, was a printmaker who worked on everything from securities to lithographs, and young Hugo often accompanied him through the city's many pubs. These early years provided a window into a world of diverse personalities and literary interests long before he ever pi
cked up a brush for formal study. By the age of thirteen, his path toward the canvas was set as he entered the preparatory school of the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts.
