The Life and Vision of Nancy Spero

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Nancy Spero was an American visual artist whose career spanned fifty years. After studying at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she continued her education in Paris at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts and the Atelier of André Lhote. During her time in Europe, she lived and collaborated with artist Leon Golub. While living in Italy, Spero became intrigued by the style and mood of Etruscan and Roman frescoes and sarcophagi.
