Kano Chikanobu, also known as Hashimoto Tadayoshi, was a Japanese artist born in Niigata Prefecture in 1660. He was trained in the Kano School of painting and later studied with the Utagawa masters Kuniyoshi and Kunisada. Chikanobu is known for his works in various formats, including hanging scrolls, six-panel folding screens, and paintings on paper and silk. His art is characterized by bright colors and firm outlines, often depicting traditional Japanese subjects such as birds and flowers, as well as figures and landscapes. Chikanobu's work was supported by the shogunate and became an official style of art, representing a distinctively Japanese tradition while also reflecting Chinese influences. He died in 1728.
