In the quiet streets of Siena, a young man named Angelo Visconti began to shape a destiny that would be cut short by the very waters that sustain a city. Some of his most significant efforts, including the large-scale Massacre of the Innocents and The Captive Levite, survived the tragedy of his death to find a home in the Museo Cassioli in Asciano. These works reveal an artist who was on the verge of a great technical mastery, capable of handling the most difficult and emotionally charged narratives of the mid-19th century. He remains a figure of Italian Romanticism and Purism, remembered for the power of his brush and the tragic, sudden end of his creative path.
