In the waning years of the Joseon dynasty, a painter emerged whose hand could capture both the majesty of kings and the quietude of the natural world. Many of his most important works are held within the National Museum of Korea, including a notable portrait of Kim Jung-hui from 1857. Other pieces of his legacy can be found in the Gansong Art Museum, ensuring that his particular way of seeing the world remains accessible to those who study the history of Korean art. Through his use of powerful yet transparent calligraphy and his mastery of ink, he left a mark on the late Joseon period that remains visible in the surviving relics of his hand.
