A Life Shaped by Light and Shadow Born into the bustling atmosphere of Stockholm, Hugo Birger Peterson grew up amidst the scent of ink and paper. His father, Sven August Peterson, was a printmaker who worked on everything from securities to lithographs, and young Hugo often accompanied him through the city's many pubs. These early years provided a window into a world of diverse personalities and literary interests long before he ever pi
cked up a brush for formal study. By the age of thirteen, his path toward the canvas was set as he entered the preparatory school of the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts. The boy's talent soon demanded more rigorous training, leading him to become a student at the Academy from 1870 to 1877.
