The Artistic Evolution of Werner Büttner
Born in Jena, Germany, Werner Büttner moved to Munich with his parents in 1961 before relocating to Berlin in 1968. After studying law at the Freie Universität Berlin from 1973 to 1977, he worked as a social assistant in the Tegel correctional facility. His work during this period was characterized as neo-expressionist and neo-dadaist, often utilizing humorous and sarcastic references to everyday life within his titles and subjects.
