Benjamin Chambers Brown, born in Marion, Arkansas in 1865, emerged as a pivotal figure in the blossoming California Impressionist movement. Though initially steered toward a legal career by his parents – Judge Benjamin Chambers Brown and Mary Broker Brown – young Benjamin found himself drawn to the burgeoning field of photography, an early indication of his keen eye for composition and light.
