Born in Istanbul, Turkey, Arman Suciyan’s artistic journey began humbly as an apprenticeship in a goldsmith workshop at the age of fifteen. This formative experience instilled within him a profound understanding of traditional craftsmanship alongside a keen eye for architectural precision – principles that would become cornerstones of his distinctive style. He was born in 1972, and grew up in Istanbul, Turkey. His father encouraged him to pursue goldsmithing as a craft. At the age of fifteen, he began working in Istanbul, but soon enough he traveled to England for education and ended up working with Stephen Webster himself. Early Influences: The Legacy of Tradition

His training under Misak Toros, fourth generation of a Turkish Armenian family with a rich heritage in jewelry design and production, exposed him to the enduring traditions of fine jewelry making. Misak Toros instilled in Arman a deep respect for ancestral techniques and a meticulous attention to detail—a perspective that profoundly shaped his artistic vision. Specifically, Arman perfected the art of wax carving and modelling, which he had begun exploring as an apprentice in the Bazaar. This dedication to mastering fundamental skills ensured that his creations would resonate with both beauty and authenticity.

Formal Education: Shaping Artistic Skill

Recognizing his talent and ambition, Arman pursued studies at Kent Institute of Art & Design, where he honed his skills in wax carving and modelling – techniques that would become central to his artistic process. The institute’s curriculum fostered a critical understanding of art history and design principles, equipping him with the tools necessary for innovation while honoring established aesthetic standards. He was able to capture the winged Goddess and her evolution in silver.

Collaborations: Partnerships That Elevate Creativity

He gained invaluable experience working alongside Stephen Webster, a renowned British jeweler, contributing to the creation of elaborate figurative pieces and establishing himself as a trusted collaborator within Webster’s workshop. Stephen Webster's influence encouraged Arman to experiment with bold concepts and push boundaries—a collaborative spirit that fueled his artistic evolution. During his time at Webster’s workshop, he developed an exceptional eye for design and execution, mastering the art of transforming raw materials into stunning sculptural jewelry.

Independent Artistic Pursuits: Milan and Return to Istanbul

After years spent honing his craft in England, Arman embarked on independent artistic endeavors, spending time in Milan before returning to Istanbul in 2008 to dedicate himself fully to his craft. This period allowed him to absorb diverse cultural perspectives and refine his aesthetic sensibilities—influences that would subsequently enrich his distinctive style. He developed his own brand: Suciyan. With all his experiences, his insights, his skills and craft, he developed his very own unique style. Arman prides himself on receiving various awards. Like the one from the Goldsmiths Craft Council or the utterly prestigious DeBeers Jewellery Design Award.
