D.Y. Cameron war ein erfolgreicher Maler und ein sehr einflussreicher Ätzer. Er studierte an der Glasgow School of Art, bevor er an der Royal Scottish Academy teilnahm. Seine Arbeit wurde in Edinburgh, London, Berlin und München gefeiert. Während des Ersten Weltkriegs wurde Cameron zum offiziellen Kriegskünstler der kanadischen Regierung ernannt und 1933 wurde der König gemacht
