Pieter de Grebber was a Dutch Golden Age painter born in Haarlem around 1600. He was educated at the Stadstekenacademie (drawing academy) and became known for his portraits and genre scenes. De Grebber was part of a Catholic and artistic family, with close ties to the clergy, which allowed him to receive numerous commissions from clandestine churches outside Haarlem and paint altarpieces for churches in Flanders and hidden Catholic churches in the Republic.
