Harry Payne: A Pioneer of Victorian Military Art Harry Payne (8 May 1858 – March 21, 1927) was a British military artist who achieved renown for his meticulous depictions of British regiments and officers during the Victorian era. Born in Newington, London, he descended from a solicitor’s family, marrying Susanna Terese Cossins in 1887 and establishing a life dedicated to capturing the spirit of the armed forces through painting and illustration.
