Pavel Bucur (1945 – 2016) is a Romanian contemporary artist, mostly known for his sculptures. with the occasion of the exhibition he held at Cotroceni National Museum, in 2010, Bucur donated us this felt-tip pen drawing, representing one of the most famous Romanian female legends. It is a recomposed and simplified portrait of Ana, the wife of Master Builder Manole, who built Curtea de Arges monastery (16th Century, in Ramnicu Valcea, Romania). Ana was allegedly sacrificed and built within the monastery’s walls to make the construction last – a symbol of the Romanian myth according to which nothing can be made without a sacrifice.More on the legend here: https://mythslegendsblog.wordpress.com/2017/04/01/the-legend-of-the-master-builder-manole-2
